Today we recognize the International Day Against Homophobia, Transphobia, and Biphobia and express our support for the lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, and intersex (LGBTI+) communities. As Secretary Pompeo has said, the United States stands for the protection of fundamental freedoms and universal human rights. We stand with people around the world in affirming the dignity and equality of all people.
While the COVID-19 pandemic presents challenges to all of us, we recognize that members of the LGBTI+ community may face additional hardships. We stand ready to assist U.S. citizens in the LGBTI+ community living in Singapore, just as we support all Americans. We stand in solidarity with LGBTI+ Singaporeans and encourage those in need to access available resources and support networks as we all focus on taking care of ourselves and one another during this challenging time.
