American folk group Tony Memmel and His Band kicked off the first part of their Asia tour last week with several stops in Singapore. The tour is part of the U.S. State Department’s program American Music Abroad and was organized in collaboration by U.S. Embassy Singapore.
In addition to rollicking performances, Tony shared inspiring stories about his life and how he became a professional guitar player despite being born without a left hand.
US. Embassy Singapore partnered with Engineering Good for a workshop at Cerebal Palsy Alliance Singapore. Engineering Good used technology to turn fruits and vegetables into accessible instruments while the band taught adaptive guitar lessons.

The band gave an amazing performance to a passionate crowd at Enabling Village on Saturday.
200 students from Juying Secondary School students clapped along to Tony Memmel’s original songs, as well as classic and pop hits.
At Timbre+, the band performed with amazingly talented Lasalle student, Nadia Nadhirah, who won our “Share the Stage” contest.
